Proyecto sucre

    SOCIAL PROJECT

Our journey began in May 2021 when Dana Bjarner, Erick Ramos, Ian Vargas, and I embarked on a brainstorming session to explore ways to support and conserve the coastal regions of Ecuador. Deliberately, we chose the Ciriales Community, known as Sucre Islet, each of us holding a personal connection, having previously engaged in beach clean-ups and witnessing their remarkable collaborative spirit.

Pooling like-minded individuals and nonprofit entities such as Mingas Por el Mar and Conmar, alongside Reef, we merged efforts to instigate change. Our unified project envisions the metamorphosis of an overlooked coastal community into a sustainable haven, bridging government bodies and NGO endeavors.

Our aim is to inspire the community to embrace a new way of life, fostering stewardship of their three ecosystems—coral reef, islet, and beach—by creating employment opportunities in sustainable tourism, advocating for environmental education, and other initiatives that enhance their livelihoods and stabilize their economy.

    Education at No Cost

As a component of our social commitment, we've provided opportunities to acquire fundamental freediving skills up to level 2 in locations like Galapagos, Machalilla, and Guayaquil. We've awarded scholarships to more than 40 students, enabling them to achieve freediving proficiency at levels 1 and 2. To date, our school has proudly graduated over 120 students.

    Sharing Knowledge

Seasterhood emerged as an initiative aiming to foster a tight-knit community of freedivers who exchange insights about the sport and a shared love for the ocean. It was established in May 2020 amidst the pandemic, designed to uphold our small freediving community's enthusiasm and dedication to continuous learning, training, and emerging stronger post-lockdowns.
